DIY Scrunchies

DIY ScrunchiesOkay, first off, let me just say that I am in LOVE with scrunchies. They are seriously the best hair accessory ever invented. They’re cute, they’re stylish, and they don’t damage your hair like regular hair ties do. Plus, you can make them in all sorts of fun patterns and colors. So when I stumbled across this tutorial for DIY scrunchies, I knew I had to give it a try. And let me tell you, it’s so easy! All you need is some fabric, elastic, and a few basic sewing supplies.

Supplies You’ll Need:

  • Fabric (I used a lightweight cotton)
  • Elastic (I used 1/4 inch wide)
  • Scissors
  • Sewing machine (optional, but makes it easier)
  • Thread
  • Pins

Step 1: Cut Your Fabric

Start by cutting a piece of fabric that is 3 inches wide and 20 inches long. This will make a scrunchie that fits most hair types. If you have really thick hair, you might want to cut a longer piece of fabric.

Step 2: Sew the Fabric Together

Next, fold the fabric in half lengthwise, right sides together. Pin the edge and sew it together, leaving a 1/4 inch seam allowance. You should end up with a long tube of fabric.

Step 3: Feed the Elastic Through the Fabric

Cut a piece of elastic that is 8 inches long. Attach a safety pin to one end of the elastic and feed it through the tube of fabric. Be careful not to lose the other end of the elastic inside the fabric tube!

Step 4: Sew the Scrunchie Closed

Once the elastic is all the way through the fabric tube, overlap the ends of the elastic by 1/2 inch and sew them together securely. Then sew the two ends of the fabric tube together, again with a 1/4 inch seam allowance.

Step 5: Turn the Scrunchie Right-Side Out

Use the opening left in the fabric to turn the scrunchie right-side out. Make sure the seam is centered and the elastic is evenly distributed throughout the fabric tube.

Step 6: Sew the Opening Closed

Finally, sew the opening closed using a small, neat stitch. And that’s it! You’re done!

Conclusion:

See how easy that was? Now you have a fun new hair accessory that you made yourself. And the best part is, you can make a bunch of these in different colors and patterns to match all your outfits.

So go raid your fabric stash and get started. Trust me, once you start making these scrunchies, you won’t be able to stop!
